Adventureland tells the story of James, a recent graduate of comparative literature, who has to work over the summer as his planned trip to Europe falls through. He is over qualified for manual labour, and so ends up getting a job at Adventureland, a theme park, working on the games. It tells the story of his developing relationship with Em, who saves him from a customer demanding a big assed Panda at knifepoint.
The film reminded me of Napolean Dynamite and Juno. It is perfectly watchable with good performances from the cast. There are some funny moments, and there are worse ways of spending a couple of hours. Having said that, not a lot actually happens. James works at the park, talks the Em and his friends and there are amusing interactions with the park’s customers.
