Four Lions is an interesting film. It tells the story of a group of British Muslim men who have decided to be suicide bombers. The group is lead by Omar (Riz Ahmed) and includes Barry (Nigel Lindsay) a white Muslim convert. Omar and Waj (Kayvan Novak) attend a terrorist training camp in Pakistan where they succeed in blowing up the people training them. They return to the UK and decide to blow up a target in the UK. They eventually decided on the London Marathon.
The film is an odd mix of moments of comic genius, sheer stupidity of the characters and moments of sadness. There is a scene where Faisal (Adeel Akhtar) describes how he bought 12 bottles of bleach which is the funniest thing I’ve seen for a long time.
The film was written and directed by Chris Morris of Brass Eye fame and is a good debut. I didn’t think it was a good as some of the reviews I’ve read, but I enjoyed it and its worth a watch…
