And so I continue my run of critically acclaimed films that I didn’t really get… In The Wrestler Mickey Rourke plays  a washed-up former wrestling star Randy “The Ram” Robinson who is continues wrestling career in a vain attempt to cling on to his 1980′s celebrity status.

The film is shot in an informal style, following Rourke around as he struggles to pay his rent and hold down his job in a supermarket. He befriends a stripper, played by Marisa Tomei, who is his only real friend. He also tries to rebuild his relationship with his estranged daughter.

To be honest I just found the whole thing pretty dull, not a lot happens and although it is well shot and the dialogue seemed fine, I just didn’t really care. I struggled to get to the end, and felt I’d just wasted a couple of hours of my life.

All in all, watching paint dry would have been more interesting.
