I watched the original Karate Kid when I was about ten and still absolutely love it, so I watch this remake with some trepidation…

I have to admit it wasn’t that bad! The story is basically the same as the original. A boy moves to a new area, gets beaten up by a group of martial arts students and is taught to fight by a wise master.

There are a number of differences: the story is set in China, the martial art is Kung Fu and there is no “wax on, wax off”, but the stories are pretty similar.

The fight scenes were very well done, and the acting was pretty good overall. The replacement for the crane kick was a bit silly, but all in all it was pretty good.

My kids thought it was brilliant, but they’ve not seen the original yet (its a 15 cert for some reason).
