My name is Andrew Braithwaite. I’ve been working in IT for 15 years and I like to think I know a thing or two about it now. I’ve spent most of my career working for large systems integration companies having worked for both IBM Global Services and Atos Origin.

I’ve had a variety of roles over the years. I started out as a C programmer working with Ingres databases, I’ve done Java, and have used pretty much every language out there at some point. Over time my roles have changed. I have been a configuration manager, software designer, technical architect and development manager.

I joined the Hut Group three years ago to get some experience developing an e-commerce platform. It was a bit weird leaving a company of thousands to join a department of five, but I’m still there so something must be going right. I was Head of Development whilst we grew the development team to 30 people and introduced an agile methodology to the business. I’m now going back to what I do best, getting involved on the technical side to help us build a platform to support the continued growth of the business.

I like delivering working systems, and have used a variety of methodologies to do this. I have a soft spot for RUP, I kind of like scrum, and love a bit of kanban.

In my spare time I play hockey (not very well) and coach U7 rugby at the local club. When I get time I like to play golf (really badly).

I created this blog because I thought it was about time I had an online presence seeing as I spend most of my time working on the internet. It started off with me reviewing books and dvds, I then added some quotes, got bored and now I primarily write about things related to work.
